Papaya Salad (Som Tum)
One of a famous and favorite Thai exotic menu is "Som Tum" or "Papaya salad".
It's a mixture menu with different favorite ingredients into the slice pieces of raw papaya.
Som Tum this time I cooked was a very exotic one we call "Som Tum Pra Ra"
Pra Ra in Thai means the fermented fishes, salty favor.
Not only Thailand we do have this type of fermented fishes also the neighbor countries like Laos, Cambodia amd Burma.
The fishes which are very good for Papaya Salad to those small once we call "Pra Gra Dii fish.
I take another post later to tell more exotic recipe from Pra Ra.
Let's cook!
1. You put together about 3 pieces of garlic with 4-5 bird chili into the mortal, pound them with pestle not have to be in a very small pieces. Remember that as much small pieces of broken garlic and chili as much spicy you get.
2. Add in 2 lime pieces (you squeeze the juice into then follow by its shell), 1 tomato cut into 4-5 pieces, 2 table spoons of fish sauce and tamarind juice, 2 tea spoons of palm sugar and Pra Ra.
3. Mix all together, you're getting now very exotic Som Tum Tra Ra salad dressing!
- If you don't want to serve the meal now, you can keep this sauce in refrigerator until then later you can mix the papaya.
4. About one time hand to pick up papaya, mix them together. Som Tum Pra Ra is now ready for serve.
- Normally, we will have Som Tun and sticky rice as a side dish but I didn't have it this time and still enjoyed.
- Sticky rice with Som Tum is different from another kind of sticky rice we eat with mango. That type we eat with mango is a sticky rice mixed with coconut milk and sugar.
Here are my picture collection of Som Tum Pra Ra I had just for 3 days continuously last week!
I love them.
Before we see again, just proud to present these ate the papaya taken from my garden.
If you want to secure the crispy and fresh, having them on salad - - you get to take it into pieces before its latex was dried off.
Dad taught me that, if you hand get in itchy from the papaya latex - - rub your hand with raw grain. It helps to reduce annoy.
